We just set up a virtual symposium help desk in "real" world just next to the registration desk, in case anyone needs help getting into the virtual sessions. If you are here, come see us.

Private Messages and the Inbox

Have you noticed that when you login, there is a box to the right side (just under the registration box) called "Private messages"? You may even have a message at the top of the page indicating that you have a message waiting for you. Be sure to check it, as it may be an important message from one of your colleagues!

The Private Message feature on this website allows you to network with anyone on the site without the fear of giving up contact information (unless you provide it yourself). All messages are kept in your inbox to and from your contacts. Others can contact you and you can contact them through their user page (click "Symposium Team" above this post for an example of a user page). Your email is not shared with the other users unless you put it in your message.

Sloan-C Western Survey Report Preview Just Released

The Sloan-C Western Survey preview report is now posted! You can download it from this page:

http://www.emergingonlinelearningtechnology.org/western_survey

This is just a preview of a report that will be released on May 7 at the Symposium in Carefree, AZ, but there is already plenty of information to digest. 400 institutions out of around 900 potential institutions in the 14 western states were included in this survey spanning a 6-year time period, so this should paint a realistic picture of what is happening in western higher education at the strategic level concerning online education.

Comparing to the national survey, it looks like 73% of the Chief Academic Officers in the west believe there is still a growth opportunity in online education, while that number sits at 83% on the national level.

Guerilla video techniques with big impact

Back in the old days (say 2001) it was very expensive to create instructional video.
