November Call for Papers/Abstracts

I've not been able to locate this information. Please let me know where to find submission dates for the November 2008 conference. Thank you!

Paper publication

I'd like to add a comment about the potential for papers to turn into full papers. I've been reading the paper abstracts (300 word proposals)and am significantly impressed by the breadth and quality of the submissions. I was struck by the potential opportunity to create a special issue of the JALN around a selection of expanded papers - perhaps even a series of issues.

JALN articles focus on things that have actually been done and include data that is analyzed, presented and conclusions drawn. Normally, on the order of 10 to 20 single printed pages, the articles tend to be quite scholarly. I would expect that from this conference we can create a marvelous set of JALN issues from certain papers. If you are interested in the possibility of writing a full-length paper for JALN, please reply to this message and/or write me.

Thanks,

John Bourne

Presentation Acceptance Notification

I've submitted a proposal for consideration, and everything seemed to have worked just fine. I'm curious, however, when I might hear back about whether my proposal was accepted or not. Is there a target date for notifications?

Paper Submission

Hi- I uploaded our proposal on Saturday evening and wondered if I will be getting a confirmation email that the proposal has been received? Thanks much. Deb

Confirmation Emails for Paper submissions

All papers submitted should receive an email (sent to the person who submits the paper for groups). If you don't, there is a good chance that it got blocked by your servers or junk mail filter, so please make sure symposium [at] sloan-c [dot] org is able to get through your email filters. However, if you still do not receive an email within a couple hours and you've checked your junk mail folder, please contact us through the CONTACT page, and we will check to make sure everything has been received.

You can also click on this link and check the status of your paper at anytime (you have to be logged into the CFP website under your CFP login):

Resubmission of Paper

I finally uploaded our paper a few minutes ago, but now I need to make a change.

How can I delete the first submission and resubmit a new version.

Thanks.

Changing a paper

Once a paper has entered the review process, the original paper cannot be changed as a safety measure. However, if you find that you need to make changes, please email us at symposium [at] sloan-c [dot] org with the new version attached. Please also indicate the ID # of the paper, shown in your active submissions page when you login as an author on the CFP website. We will upload it as a new revision of the paper.

CFP Date Change

On the actual submission site it states that the Call For Proposal date range is:
September 19, 2007 - January 16, 2008. Does this mean the December 3, 2007 deadline has been extended?

CFP Date Change

Hi Michelle,

The date has indeed been extended. The site hasn't been updated yet, however. I apologize for the confusion.

Three questions

Here, it says "The due date is November 1, 2007". On http://www.emergingonlinelearningtechnology.org/call_for_papers it says "Papers are due by December 3, 2007". Which is right?

I have no idea what you are expecting as Keywords. Can you give me any guidance?

I am asked to choose the type of session I want, individual presentation, group presentation, or poster session. Having never been to a Sloan-C event before, I don't know what form these take. In particular, how much time does each sort of session give you, and hence how much material is it feasible to try to cover?

Thank you for your help.

Follow Up on Poster Session Question

We have removed the poster session as an option, so please just indicate if you are presenting as an individual or a group.

Session Type and Length

The questions you have about the session type and length are good ones and have prompted us to post an "official" description for these issues. But to do that, we want to consult with the conference committee during the work week. So we will get back to you with a more in depth answer after the weekend. But in the meantime, in case you need a more immediate response, this is what we believe will be the answers:

Session Type - If you are presenting by yourself, indicate individual. If you are presenting with one or more colleagues, select group presentation. That will be the majority of the presentations, but we'll elaborate more on the poster session in our next response.

Session length - The planned session length will be 30 minutes [UPDATED] with a recommended 10 minutes of Q&A (so 20 minutes for the presentation itself).

Length Update

Sorry, the sessions are 30 minutes long, with a recommended 10 minute Q&A. I've updated above to avoid any further confusion.

Thanks for you quick responses

One further question, if I may. It is described as a call for papers, and the text (on http://www.emergingonlinelearningtechnology.org/call_for_papers) goes on to talk about 'papers, and ultimately presentations'. Then on http://www.emergingonlinelearningtechnology.org/cfp/index.php/eta/eta200... we seem only to be asked for a 'Three hundred word paper description' by 3rd December.

So the question is: if my paper is accepted, will I have to produce a written paper, deliver a presentation, or both. And if a paper, where will it be published: online, in print, or both (basically, can I rely on colour figures?), what will be the deadline for completed papers, is there a word limit, etc?

Excuse my ignorance, it is some years since I finished my PhD, and I seem to have forgotten how more academic conferences are conducted.

Paper submission is designed for ease

Tim, all great questions, so glad you can help us improve the process, especially in this first year of offering this event. We've updated the copy on the main information page about the Call for Papers:

http://www.emergingonlinelearningtechnology.org/call_for_papers

Hopefully, this will clarify things a bit more, but if not please let us know and we will continue to try and improve the wording. Basically though, it is meant to be a quick submission where you only need a 300-word, 1 page paper. No other paper will be needed if your proposal is accepted. You will then give a presentation at the symposium and we will collect other items later as needed, such as the presentation for our archives.

For those that have written full papers that are of publishing standards, we encourage you to make a note of that during the submission process (there is a 'note to review' section) and we will contact you for further instructions. But that is not required for the symposium submission or to be accepted.

Indexing with Keywords

Thank you for your questions Tim.

I think a little background on the keywords will help. The online submission system we are using is taking advantage of the Open Archives initiative, which provides the emerging standard for well-indexed access to electronic research resources on a global scale. Along those lines, we encourage you to submit keywords that will help support this searching function. What words best represent your proposal and will help others find and identify your work when they are searching for a related topic?
