Great outdoors
I really loved Dave's idea of spending time formal and free time outdoors at Carefree, and appreciate his reference to Richard Louv's Last Child in the Woods. That feeling of freedom is one of the things I like about Second Life, and look forward to the ways the Carefree Symposium can emulate it as a new learning environment.

...in the woods
A great idea - but I need a primer on the "last child in the woods" - what is this about...
Nature good for health
Yes, Richard Louv's formulation was news to me too, til I looked up his website, http://www.thefuturesedge.com/. His idea is that too many kids are kept inside and suffer negative consequences from interacting with nature, the original immersive environment.
Carefree appeals include visiting the copper mines, golf-courses, desert safaris, new fauna and flora, sitting under the stars sans electric lights--all these promise open minds for big and little kids :)
