Private Messages and the Inbox
April 2nd, 2008 Symposium TeamHave you noticed that when you login, there is a box to the right side (just under the registration box) called "Private messages"? You may even have a message at the top of the page indicating that you have a message waiting for you. Be sure to check it, as it may be an important message from one of your colleagues!
The Private Message feature on this website allows you to network with anyone on the site without the fear of giving up contact information (unless you provide it yourself). All messages are kept in your inbox to and from your contacts. Others can contact you and you can contact them through their user page (click "Symposium Team" above this post for an example of a user page). Your email is not shared with the other users unless you put it in your message.

Sloan-C Western Survey Report Preview Just Released
March 25th, 2008 Keith BourneThe Sloan-C Western Survey preview report is now posted! You can download it from this page:
http://www.emergingonlinelearningtechnology.org/western_survey
This is just a preview of a report that will be released on May 7 at the Symposium in Carefree, AZ, but there is already plenty of information to digest. 400 institutions out of around 900 potential institutions in the 14 western states were included in this survey spanning a 6-year time period, so this should paint a realistic picture of what is happening in western higher education at the strategic level concerning online education.
Comparing to the national survey, it looks like 73% of the Chief Academic Officers in the west believe there is still a growth opportunity in online education, while that number sits at 83% on the national level.

Registrations Filling, Presenters Please Book Soon
February 22nd, 2008 Symposium TeamRegistrations have really increased in the last couple weeks, probably in response to the CFP process coming to completion. We do anticipate this event to sell out. We encourage everyone to book their hotel soon to ensure a spot, but especially if you are a presenter. Unlike our annual event, where we've been able to find space for more attendees, we do have a very definite cut-off for this event (at 400) and we want to make sure all of our presenters don't have problems booking and attending. More information about travel and hotel can be found at this link:
http://www.emergingonlinelearningtechnology.org/hotel_reservations
We are excited that this is such a popular topic among the Sloan-C community and look forward to seeing you soon in sunny Arizona.
The Buddy List and Groups
February 15th, 2008 Symposium TeamWe anticipate the activity on this website to pick up as we get closer to the event in Carefree, AZ, even if you aren't attending. In anticipation of the event, we encourage you to discuss your interests and curiosities in the topics of this website so that by the time you get to the event, you can take more advantage of your time there. To help facilitate collaboration, we encourage you to utilize some of the networking tools installed on this website, which include:

Transportation Information for the Event
February 13th, 2008 Symposium TeamIf you are going to be joining us for the in-person event in Carefree, Arizona in May, you should find this page helpful:
http://www.emergingonlinelearningtechnology.org/hotel_reservations
We just added the information about shuttle service from the airport. We've arranged a discounted rate through Super Shuttle for attendees, but you have to reserve in advance. Note the instructions on that page for how to use the shuttle service. This will save you some anxiety and hopefully improve your experience at this event.
Be sure to book your hotel soon to make sure you have a room!
Sloan-C Social Information Session in Second Life
January 3rd, 2008 Symposium TeamHello all,
Here is an image from the networking session we had in Second Life just before the holiday break (Dec 21) focused on the Symposium and what we are doing online and in Carefree, AZ.

We believe we had well over a hundred visitors at that point. We plan to do another one soon and we will keep you posted through this website and other Sloan-C channels. It was great to meet some of you that came out.

What are the most important technologies?
September 29th, 2007 Keith BourneIn general, I'd like to gain a better understanding which technologies are having the greatest impact on online education and then, of course, I would like to understand how to best utilize those technologies in the classroom (without getting too technical).
