  • Sarah Robbins of Ball State UniversityFeatured Second Life Presenter Sarah "Intellagirl" Robbins - Sarah Robbins will join us in-person while streaming into Second Life (in-world). Sarah “Intellagirl” Robbins is a Ph.D. candidate at Ball State University and a contractor to Indiana University. Along with her partner, Mark Bell, Sarah recently published “Second Life for Dummies” (Wiley) and is now the editor of Linden Lab’s Second Life Education Blog (www.sl-educationblog.org). Her research focuses on communication mechanics in virtual environments such as Second Life, There, Kaneva, World of Warcraft and others. After being featured in The New York Times, USA Today, and The Chronicle of Higher Education, Sarah has spent the last two years traveling the world helping higher education understand the impact of Web 2.0 and virtual worlds.

  • Sonic Foundry Media SiteSonic Foundry Streaming Sessions - Sonic Foundry will provide the platform to deliver over 13 hours of streaming sessions direct from the in-person event at Carefree Resort in Carefree, AZ. Don't miss a thing from the comforts of your own home, but if you do, it will all be recorded for later replay and discussion on this page. All Keynote Events, the Town Hall meeting, and one featured session from each time slot will be streamed online using Sonic Foundry's Media Site application, which combines live video of the presentation along with any supporting materials used during the session.

  • Elluminate Live!Elluminate Live! International Panel - In partnership with European Distance and E-Learning Network (EDEN) and Elluminate USA, Sloan-C delivers this panel through the use of the Elluminate Live! software platform. You will be able to view this panel through a link on this page (when logged in). This session will feature a panel of presenters who illustrate different ways in which European institutions are innovating with social networking applications, including Helen Keegan from the University of Salford, U.K., Steve Wheeler from the University of Plymouth, U.K., and Sean Rowland of Hibernia College. Elluminate’s powerful Live! software effectively delivers lecture-type speeches, while also having the ability to facilitate collaboration among many individuals. Online participants, as well as anyone logging in from the in-person event will be able to discuss the panel and ask questions during the event using Elluminate's chat functionality.

  • Second LifeSecond Life Sessions - Attendees will join us from both the in-person symposium in Carefree as well online in the virtual sympsium for 6 Second Life Sessions that will be accessible during three of the 1-hour concurrent sessions. The time slots that will be used:
    • concurrent Session I - 8:15-9:15 am, May 8

      • Active and interactive learning – Secrets from the Second Life Teen Grid, Cathy Arreguin, San Diego State University
    • concurrent Session II - 1:05-2:05 pm, May 8
      • Leveraging social network knowledge construction for powerful learning in Second Life, Lisa Dawley, Boise State University
      • Development of a virtual model of the human testis using the Second Life platform, Douglas R. Danforth, Ohio State University
    • concurrent Session VII - 8:15-9:15 am, May 9
      • Teaching and learning in the Second Life virtual environment Chang Liu, Russ College of Engineering and Techonology at Ohio State University
      • The reality of virtual worlds in an undergraduate social work course, Dawn Sweet, Western Illinois University, Karen Zellmann, Western Illinois University


The Virtual Symposium is available to all attendees of the in-person symposium, as well as the Online Symposium.
